Increasingly more saltwater fishing boats are being built with carbon-fiber and composite construction resulting in lighter weight, stronger hulls overall. For dexterity in the water, aluminum and fiberglass offer a more lightweight alternative, and they may also be more durable with less maintenance required. There are some welded aluminum models in the flat and skiff sub-classes, and some boaters will still prefer the look and feel of traditional marine wood construction for their fishing excursions. Most saltwater fishing boats these days are made from molded resin or fiberglass construction processes and are mass-produced for easy purchase. Typically, these boats will be designed with semi-v hulls and deep-v hulls for rough water handling, or a shallow, flat bottom for minimal water disturbance to avoid scaring the fish away. There are a number of styles of boats that can be used for saltwater fishing, including convertibles, center consoles, bay boats, skiffs, dual consoles, flats boats, power cats and others.
